The writer of Psalm 121 makes a profound statement regarding the source of his help in times of need. “My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth” (v. 2). The Lord, Jehovah, is the source of his help. No power or entity in the entire universe is greater than Jehovah. After all, as the Psalmist states about the Lord, Jehovah, “Who made heaven and earth.” Think about that for a moment. This very One, Who brings help in time of need, is the very Creator of the universe and everything in it. That truth is repeatedly stated throughout the Book of Psalms.
“The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born” (Psalm 33:6 NLT).
11 “The heavens are Yours, and the earth is Yours; everything in the world is Yours—You created it all. 12 You created north and south. Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon praise Your name. 13 Powerful is Your arm! Strong is Your hand! Your right hand is lifted high in glorious strength” (Psalm 89:11-13 NLT).
4 “For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens” (Psalm 96:4-5).
“Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 124:8).
Omnipotent God
What an incredible truth – the Creator of heaven and earth is the source of my help! Because He is omnipotent, there is nothing that His power cannot accomplish on our behalf. Because of this fact and truth, we can say goodbye to fear and doubt, apprehension and anxiety, uncertainty, and the unknown. By faith, we can call out to our God and trust His might.
