Of course, the two primary elements – the bread, representing the body of Jesus, and the wine, representing His blood – are the primary focus of Communion. But Jesus makes a very important statement that we tend to forget or not pay enough attention to. Here it is, the Lord’s Supper looks to the future, “Assuredly, I say to you, I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God” (Mark 14:25 NKJV).

Every time we partake of Communion, we are reminded that when we share it with the Lord for the first time, it will be in the future, when we experience the Kingdom of God with Him.

So, Communion is to be observed with the reality of looking to the future. Think about it, when we partake of the bread and the wine with Jesus for the first time, it will be with Him. That is our future.

My Prayer:

“My Jesus, let me be reminded that every time I partake of Communion, I look forward to the future when I will share it with You. (See Mark 13:1-13) The world would be in total turmoil, and Christians would even be persecuted, arrested, and brought before their persecutors.

Jesus then tells His disciples that when they are brought before the officials for questioning and interrogation because of their faith, a phenomenal thing will happen.

“But when you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry in advance about what to say. In Mark 12, Jesus was asked a question that was designed to reveal that His allegiance should be to Caesar, the Roman emperor.
